Bat Control & Damage Remediation

Bats play an important role in the ecosystem, but when they enter homes and buildings they can quickly become a serious nuisance. Bat colonies commonly establish themselves in attics, wall cavities, and rooflines where they can live undetected for long periods of time.

Nuisance Wildlife Control, LLC provides professional bat exclusion and bat colony removal services throughout Evansville, Indiana and the surrounding tri-state region. Our approach focuses on safely removing bats while preventing them from returning to your structure.

Why Bats Enter Homes

Bats do not chew their way into homes like rodents. Instead they locate existing openings in structures and use them as entry points.

Common entry areas include:

  • Roofline gaps

  • Ridge Vents

  • Gable Vents

  • Soffits & Facia

  • Chimneys

  • Construction Gaps

  • Roof intersections

Many bat species can enter through openings as small as ½ inch, making it easy for colonies to establish themselves in attics or wall spaces.

Once bats find a suitable roost, they may return to the same location year after year.

Signs of a Bat Colony

Many homeowners do not realize bats are present until the colony becomes large. Often even pest control companies mis-identify bat evidence as evidence of rodent activity.

Common indicators include:

  • Chirping or scratching noises in walls or attic at night

  • Bats seen flying around the roofline at dusk

  • Small dark droppings (guano) accumulating near entry points.

  • Staining around roofline gaps or vents

  • Strong ammonia-like odor from guano accumulation.

If any of these signs are present, a professional bat assessment is recommended.

Our Bat Removal Process

Bat removal requires a specialized approach. Because bats are protected wildlife in both Indiana and Kentucky, they cannot simply be trapped or killed. Instead, the proper method is known as bat exclusion.

1 Full Structural Inspection

We begin with a detailed inspection of the structure to identify:

  • active entry points

  • potential secondary openings

  • colony size and activity

  • guano accumulation

  • potential damages

2 Installation of Exclusion Devices

Specialized one-way exclusion devices are installed over the active entry points. These devices allow bats to exit the structure normally, but prevent them from re-entering.

3 Sealing Secondary Entry Points

Bats are persistent and will attempt to find alternate openings once exclusion devices are installed. For this reason, other potential entry points must be sealed.

Repairs may include sealing:

  • soffit gaps

  • facia joints

  • roofline openings

  • vent gaps

  • construction voids

4 Removal of Exclusion Devices

After the colony has fully exited the structure, the exclusion devices are removed and the final entry points are permanently sealed. This completes the exclusion process and prevents bats from returning.

Bat Guano Cleanup & Attic Remediation

Bat colonies can produce significant amounts of guano over time. Accumulated droppings can create strong odors and contaminate attic insulation.

If necessary, Nuisance Wildlife Control can provide additional services including:

  • removal of contaminated insulation

  • guano removal

  • sanitation and disinfection

  • odor neutralization

  • insulation replacement

These services help restore the attic to a safe and sanitary condition.

Bat Maternity Season

In Indiana and Kentucky, bats give birth during early summer. During this time young bats are unable to fly, which means exclusion work MAY NEED TO BE SCHEDULED CAREFULLY TO AVOID TRAPPING JUVENILES INSIDE THE STRUCTURE. Our technicians follow proper wildlife control practices and timing to ensure bat colonies are removed responsibly.

Why Professional Bat Control Matters

Improper attempts to remove bats can result in:

  • bats becoming trapped inside walls

  • bats entering living space

  • increased structural contamination

  • colonies relocating deeper inside the building

Professional bat exclusion ensures the colony leaves safely and the structure is properly sealed against future entry.
